OER Practitioner Certification
OER-Practitioner Certification
Staff at the University of Vienna can complete free training to become OER practitioners—experts in open teaching practices utilizing open educational resources. Participants who complete this certification program, worth 1 ECTS credit (including asynchronous MOOC participation and OER publication), will receive the OER-practitioner-certificate.
The kick-off event provides an overview of the course structure and the individual modules. Participants will be given an introduction to the topic of ‘Open Practices in Teaching, Learning, Administration and Research’, as well as an outline of the content and objectives of the certification programme.
During the group workshop, the content of the training programme will be explored in greater depth with a practical focus and using specific examples. Participants will develop initial ideas for the use of Open Educational Resources in teaching, learning, administration and research, discuss outstanding issues and gain an overview of the services and support available at the University of Vienna.
This asynchronous MOOC covers the basics of Open Educational Resources (OER) across four modules. Participants will learn about the concept of open educational resources, discover how to use and publish OER in a legally compliant manner, and gain an overview of open licences as well as ways to search for and publish OER.
Selected content from this asynchronous MOOC covers the legal foundations of academic publishing. Participants will gain an overview of issues relating to copyright, licensing and contract law, learn how to use Creative Commons licences, and explore topics such as open access, repositories, collecting societies and the protection of intellectual property.
As part of an individual assignment, participants will create and publish three Open Educational Resources (OER) in PHAIDRA, the University of Vienna’s institutional OER repository. Throughout the process, they will be guided and supported by the certification team.
